Podcasts can be an ideal escape from reality. They can leave you laughing for an hour or they can help to uplift your spirits. Motivational podcasts, in particular, are the perfect way to improve your day. You can go about your daily tasks (cooking dinner, driving to work, or walking the dog) while still picking up life tips.
Have you ever heard of the idea that you are a reflection of the three people that you spend the most time with? When I first heard that, it really clicked with me. I realized, though, that it’s not just the people that you spend your time with, but the platforms you spend your time ON that will impact your overall mindset.
So, I became more conscious of what I was listening to and who I was giving my time to. I began listening to more uplifting and “self-help” style podcasts. Gotta admit: I cringe saying “self-help”, but I’m not sure how else to describe them other than health and wellness or, motivational. Over the past two years, I’ve found several podcasts that I can turn to for inspiration or to help me feel more like the badass that I am. Of course, I never stopped listening to true crime because… #addicted.
But, if you’re on the hunt for some podcasts to invest your time in so that you can be a reflection of the positive mindset and go-getter lifestyle, look no further. I’m sharing my top 4 killer recommendations below. (Not like, serial killer… but, if you want true crime recs holla in the comments because I’d be happy to share that passion, too!)

The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast
This is my all-time favorite podcast. If you ask any of my friends, they’ll tell you that I’m truly addicted. Lauryn and Michael interview all kinds of people from entrepreneurs to bloggers and other podcasters to recovering drug addicts. They’ll share all kinds of different approaches to personal growth and even though some of the conversations go down a path that I would never personally try, I love how it opens my mind to different ideas. Lauryn always asks her audience to take what they need and leave what doesn’t work, but listen with an open mind.
Topics range from intermittent fasting and healthy eating to skincare or self-love to success tips and relationship advice. Before listening, you should know that this isn’t your standard “self help” podcast and is not always a safe listen if you have little ears around.
My Top Recommended Episodes:

The Ed Mylett Show
I first discovered Ed on the Him & Her podcast. After listening to him, I felt super inspired. I immediately went looking for more details on him. At the time, his podcast photo or social media photo (can’t remember which) was a picture of him in front of a jet and a Cadillac. I was a little turned off, to say the least, and thought he might be a bit of a narcissist. I gave him a chance and quickly fell in love with his content. This show is basically the definition of motivational podcasts.
He’s a great host, asks the right questions, and just leaves you feeling ready to take on the day every episode.
Top episodes to dive into from the get-go:
- Progress, Not Perfection with Marie Forleo
- Building Confidence
- Unlocking Your Success Code
This Podcast Is Best For…
If you’re ready to self-reflect and looking for inspiration. Those who are Christian or willing to hear some faith-based information thrown in (naturally).

A Cup of Jo
The format of this podcast is much more snackable. Typically, episodes are pretty short, so they’re ideal if you don’t have much time.
Hosted by Jovanie Smith, the podcast is all about uplifting the positive and hearing other perspectives. There’s also a series called “Dear Jo” where Jo answers questions from listeners. Most of these questions are topics that we all want the answers to. A Cup of Jo is a newer podcast, but so far I’ve been really impressed.
Top episodes thus far:
- Attitude of Gratitude
- Mental Health is Wealth
This Podcast Is Best For…
Those who want reassurance that you’re not alone in your feelings. Great for when you’re short on time. Spotify listeners (I cannot seem to find this one on Apple Podcasts).

The Health Code
If you love an Australian accent, I’m here to make your day! The Health Code is hosted by Australian YouTube star Sarah’s Day (obsessed – check her out if you don’t know her!) and her boyfriend Kurt. The couple makes you feel like your sitting around with friends and they have a straight-forward yet comfortable approach to wellness.
I love the banter between the couple and feel ready to be my fittest self whenever I finish an episode!

You’ve got some great suggestions here. I have really been embracing podcasts during this whole lockdown situation. I’ve usually got podcasts going when I’m doing housework like folding clothes, washing dishes or vacuuming. It’s a great way to help get my mind ‘right’ while I’m being productive (on tasks that I don’t generally enjoy).
You should definitely check out Ashley Graham’s Pretty Big Deal podcast!! It’s one of my go-to’d and ive learned soo much!
